ARB Reform Group

Consultation for the next Board Meeting

The following new business is being considered by the members of the ARB Reform Group for introduction at the next ARB board meeting on 11 May 2006.

1.    Review the Board's policy of confidentiality so as to achieve the openness and accountability of Lord Nolan's "Seven Principles of Public Life".

2.    Nominate George Oldham as Vice-Chair of the Board.

3.    Cancel plans for expenditure on "public relations".

4.    Appoint an Acting Registrar while the cost of contracting out registration services is investigated and compared with historic in-house expenditure.

5.    Ensure members of the Reform Group are represented on key committees.

6.    Obtain sight of legal advice given to the Board to ascertain whether firstly the advice is cogent and objective, and secondly that it has been followed.

7.    Test current issues including those activities and rules that have been reported as being outside the Board's statutory remit (touching on the Electoral Scheme, prescription, examinations, competence to practise, insurance declarations and related PCC decisions, use of title).

8.    Initiate a review the 2006 Business Plan so as to make substantial savings in projected expenditure.

Registered architects are invited to lend their support to the group and express their views by sending an email to ARG.
