ARB Reform Group

2 009 Election statement

Andrew Mortimer

I am standing as an ARB Reform Group candidate with the prime objective of holding the Architects’ Registration Board to its statutory functions only, as prescribed by Parliament.

I am passionate about Architecture, have worked hard to qualify as an Architect and feel privileged to be part of the profession.

Having qualified from the University of Sheffield in 1999, I am fortunate enough to have been supported by RMA Architects, have grown with the practice, been involved in its management for the last five years and a shareholder / partner for the last three years.

I understand the responsibilities and difficulties faced by young architects and small businesses.

The next few years are going to be tough. We must demonstrate and protect the unique value of architects and of architecture in the community.

We are distracted and frustrated by bureaucracy which slows progress and adds unnecessary layers to decision making. We should be able to focus our energy on promoting architecture, design quality of our buildings and improving the built environment; doing the very best job we can for our clients and communities.

The ARB, RIBA and ACA should be complementary; their energies should reinforce rather than duplicate each other, ARB registration fees should reflect this and be minimised.

Please elect all seven Reform Group candidates: Ruth Brennan, Colin Brock, Mark Benzie , George Oldham, Derek Salter, Bernard Wyld and myself to help us to achieve reform on your behalf.
