ARB Reform Group

2009 Election statement

Bernard Wyld

I stand as a Reform Group candidate resolved to continue to hold ARB to its statutory functions only as prescribed by Parliament and to assist the Board in conducting these activities.

As a SCALA member, closely involved in our partnership with the ACA, I will use these public/private sector links in the interests of all architects and work with other Reform Group members in curbing unnecessary bureaucracy and cost, as well as making the Board more open and accountable.

The Reform Group have already improved the committee structure and avoided replication of the CPD process. Outsourcing of the ARB exams and unnecessary monitoring of PII, together with vigorous protection of title, are all work in progress.

Much remains to be done in ensuring a lean and efficient ARB, as shown by the latest fee increase. Protection of title should be extended to include the many derivatives which could confuse or deceive clients, and I am also supportive of continuing to hold the ARB to defending the title ‘architect’ and to strengthen this as a core duty.

Only by working together can architects build on what has been achieved. I hope you support our aims and objectives and see them as a positive step forward for the profession during a challenging time.

By electing all seven Reform Group candidates: Mark Benzie, Ruth Brennan, Colin Brock, Andrew Mortimer, George Oldham, Derek Salter and myself, you will help us to achieve further reform on your behalf.
