Election statement - Nicholas Tweddell
I stand with George Oldham, Colin Brock, Peter Phillips, Mark Benzie, John Griffiths and Derek Salter.
As candidates for The ARB Reform Group we firmly resolve to define and restrict ARB’s statutory duties, activities and fees.
Much work needs to be done to repair the profession. We must take positive and decisive action. Defective values have devastated our profession. I aim to restore values, imparting transparency, honesty and openness within ARB.
1 ARB Subscriptions - Reduce to £60 per annum. Further reductions where possible. Appoint a new Chief Executive with a fresh outlook
2 General Rules - Omit secrecy and confidentiality
3 Title Abuse - Take decisive action
4 Fowler and Dutton legal opinions - regarding register eligibility, PII and Education remit. Reconsider and publish.
5 Insurance - Reduce thresholds to £100,000. Define sub-groups requiring no cover
6 Referendum - Determining your views, possible independent registration board
7 RIBA - Positive working relationship

External to ARB I will lobby Government to revise legislation including
A Protection of Function - Architects to sign all planning applications
B Mandatory Fee Structures - Return to 1985 Blue book ‘Architect’s Appointment’
C Procurement - Standard Contracts and PFI format, ensuring adequate timeframes for information release, costing and certainty
