Election statement - Derek Salter

I am a member of The ARB Reform Group, firmly resolved to restore ARB to its statutory function, thereby reducing its activities, bureaucracy and fees and increasing its effectiveness.

Having served as Hon. Secretary and Past President of The Association of Consultant Architects I believe that the time has come for the views of the profession to be heeded by the ARB.

There is now a need for change in the way the ARB’s affairs are handled and Empire building must be stopped.

The following areas of concern need to be addressed:

The originally intended role of the ARB to be that of registration not regulation

Duplication of roles with other bodies to cease

Board composition to be representative of the profession

Decisions by the Board to be open and accountable

An independent Professional Conduct Committee with the right of appeal

The title ‘Architect’ to be maintained as a right for life

Professional Indemnity Insurance requirements to be more flexible

Abuse of title to be effectively pursued in the interest of consumer protection

Control of education to remain with the RIBA

CPD to be managed by the RIBA

The aim should not be one of conflict; the goal is the creation of an equitable and efficient system of registration with minimal regulation. It is time that Architects are credited with respect as caring professionals.

Please do not miss this opportunity – vote for all seven group candidates.
