Election statement - Sarah Lupton
I have over 20 years' experience as a partner in practice, and for the last 12 have combined this with an academic post at the Welsh School of Architecture, where I direct the MA in Professional Studies. I also lecture and run seminars for architects in a large number of RIBA regions, and have authored many books of practice-related matters. I have been a member of a number of construction industry and RIBA committees, currently chairing the RIBA President's Advisory Committee on Dispute Resolution. This experience has led me to an in-depth understanding of the issues facing the profession.
I am concerned that the level of competence and the high reputation of UK architects should be maintained and promoted, both in the UK and worldwide. If elected I would take a particular interest in the Board's role in relation to the European context , including the implications of cross border working, and of the existing and proposed European Directives relating to qualification and professional services.
I would approach my role at the ARB from an impartial standpoint, seeking to represent the views of a wide spectrum of registered architects. I would aim to bring a common-sense view to the issues that currently divide the RIBA and the ARB, in the hope of moving towards a resolution of current conflicts.
