Election statement - Colin Roy Brock

I am a member of The ARB Reform Group, firmly resolved to restore ARB to its intended statutory function; thereby reducing its activities, its bureaucracy and its fees – and increasing its effectiveness.

I believe these changes are necessary:

Board composition should be more representative of our profession.

Regulation should be the absolute minimum.

Registration procedures should be more efficient.

Board decisions to be open, fair and accountable.

Professional Conduct Committee to be independent.

An appeal process with effective access for all.

Duplication with other bodies to cease.

Education matters to be controlled by RIBA only.

CPD all to be managed by RIBA.

Professional Indemnity Insurance to have reduced threshold and proven categories of exemption.

The title ‘architect’ for life to be a right.

Abuse of title by non-architects to be effectively prosecuted.

As Vice President of the Association of Consultant Architects, I intervened and set up the meetings in 2005 between ACA, BT, ARB and RIBA that established the necessary agreements and actions to unlock a problem that should have been resolved years ago. This work continues with other advertisers and their national trade associations.

ACA regularly liaises with RIBA and works together on many issues in a proactive and non-bureaucratic way. I have brought many of these issues to the attention of the Minister and to the Parliamentary Select Committee. I am eager to serve the profession.

For strength and a real opportunity for change, vote for all seven group candidates.
